Water-Jet Cutting is a cutting process which is
steadily increasing in it’s importance as well as
popularity amongst many parts of industry. In this
process the water is compressed to a pressure of
up to 4000 bar and bundled to a fine beam by
means of a jet (<=0,1 mm). The beam then is
accelerated up to 1000 m/s.

The decisive advantage of this cutting technique is that water is a non-toxic, non inflammable, chemically neutral, cost saving and environmentally friendly material. 

Through it’s special properties, you can use this Water-Jet Cutting Technique everywhere with the following requirements:

     •    cutting edges may not be heated
     •    no gases, steam or hot cinders may occur
     •    definitive pressure of mechanical tools is not possible 
     •    tool and material may not touch one another 
     •    material is very hot, cold or refractory

Abrasive-Water-Jet Cutting Process it is made possible to cut even the hardest and toughest of materials, such as glass, ceramics, marble, granite, compound materials, titanium, aluminium or special alloys in a clean, economical and environmentally friendly way. 

During the cutting action the water beam is mixed with fine sand particles in a special mixing
chamber. The beam then is focused in an abrasive jet, manufactured from hardened metal or bor-carbide. Granite or Olivine with a grain size of 0.1 - 0.3 mm is mostly used as abrasive sand.

Main Components of a Water-Jet Cutting Machine

High pressure pump:

Supplies the required amount of water and produces the necessary working pressure.

Abrasive dispensing:

Out of a dispenser the required amount of abrasive units is lead
into the cutter.

Cutting Head:

Manufactured with an on/off valve and an additional abrasivehead in most cases.

Cutting table & Guiding System:

All CAMTEC Cutting Tables are made according to customer’s specifications and are equipped with our CAMTEC 9000 Controller. The CAMTEC 9000 Controller can be used by many CAD/CAM programs via the special plotter language HPGL.

Water-Jet Cutting is an environmentally friendly technology because it uses only filtered water for cutting. No environmentally damaging substances are necessary during the whole process. 
Furthermore, Water-Jet Cutting is a Cold-Cutting Technique. Therefore, the formation of toxic gases which can arise with heat is completely excluded. Moreover, a clean and safe working process is guaranteed because the carving material is being carried by the water beam in a beam pencil. Based on the relative low amount of abrasives, carving material and water recycling doesn’t cause any problem. You can pre-arrange recycling.
